Newton Poppleford

Fifteen men from Newton Poppleford are known to have fallen in the service of King and Country during the Great War, just under half of them in the Devonshire Regiment. Two were enlisted in Canadian regiments, and one died while serving in the Royal Air Force, having earlier joined the Royal Naval Air Service. 

The parish’s fallen from the war of 1914-1918 are remembered on a granite cross outside St Luke’s Church in the village.
